DF95 European Regatta

fleet board

Fleet board for seeding races.

So whilst I’m sat at home looking at a non boating forecast and wondering why I haven’t gone to Italy there are a good few of our regular UK skippers out at lake Garda enjoying the opening dinner for the DF95 European Regatta. There will no doubt be a wealth of social media updates over the next three days as everyone tries hard to beat global champion John Tushingham at his own game. It is sure to be a great weekend of racing and social in what looks to be an epic location.

Our good friend Chuck is aiming to live stream as much of the racing as he can so check out Radiosailing TV on the youtube.

If anyone has a helicopter and can have me there by breakfast on Friday morning I’m listening………

Events Update

Another great Sue Brown photo – Thanks Sue!

So we are into the DF Racing TT Series in earnest with four events under our belts. The next two rounds take place at the historic Birkenhead RS&PBC on the Wirral.  We are getting on for 30 entries for each day with three weeks to go, my name is missing as are a few others who are still to enter and there is sure to be a good turnout from the club members.

We have had some detail on a weekend event being held at Coalhouse Fort for DF65 and DF95 over the weekend of the 11th & 12th May, good practice for the DF95 Nationals the weekend after. Check out the events page for more details.

National Championships, first up is the DF95 Championship at Eastbourne, currently sporting nearly 50 entries. Two weeks later we have the DF65 Championship at Two Islands in Milton Keynes where we currently stand at 25 entries, but that list hasn’t seen an update since mid March so there will doubtless be more entries by now. More details on the events page.

Don’t think you’re good enough to come racing? I think this might be a few of you however let me tell you something, if you turn up I will almost guarantee that you’ll have fun, you’ll learn a lot, you’ll make some new friends and you’ll get a whole heap of help and encouragement from everyone, even the fleet’s top skippers. If you’re in any doubt then above are six events that you could come and have a try at, they are spread all over the country so there is probably something near (ish) to you.

Overall TT scores plus photos!

Just one of 138 photos from Sue Brown….thanks Sue!

Well, our absent scorekeeper Peter Baldwin was well on the ball and I had the up to date TT scores by the time I got home last night but by the time I’d written the report I couldn’t keep my eyes open long enough to add them to the results page

Peter turned up on Friday afternoon however having had a hospital appointment earlier in the week he arrived on Saturday to race but just wasn’t able to. I’m sure we all wish him a speedy recovery and we look forward to seeing him at Birkenhead.

We also had a mail from the recovering Sue Brown who was on hand to take some of those really nice photos that we all enjoy so much. Please clicky here to take a look at lots of nice photos….. Thanks Sue!

Gosport Incoming

So we are all gearing up to a weekend at Gosport with some great racing in prospect. We are looking at a bumper entry for both days with many newcomers taking part for the first time on both days. We have nearly 40 entries for the DF65’s on Saturday and almost 50 entries for the DF95’s on Sunday which is really encouraging for the second event of our season.

Gosport

The Cockle ponds Gosport.

We’ll keep you up to date with proceedings as they go off and it promises to be a great weekend at one of the UK’s premier model yachting clubs.

There will be some DF65’s on the water tomorrow and Sunday!

So the RYA Dinghy show is happening this weekend, 2nd & 3rd March at Ally Pally in London Village. The DF Racing UK crew will be in attendance helping out RC Yachts to run the “have a go” pool where you can try your hand at DF65 racing, it promises to be a bit of a giggle. The MYA also have a stand at the show to promote Radio Sailing in general to the masses as well as having a guest slot on the CA stage on Saturday afternoon.

We’ve also had details of the next couple of rounds of the 2019 TT series which are being held at Birkenhead RSPBC in late April. Full details , including how to enter are available by clicking here.

There is also still time to enter the DF95 European Regatta, entries are still coming in and you could be radio sailing on the shores of Lake Garda in just over a month’s time….go on you know you want to. Clicky here for full details.

We are up to 33 entries for the DF95 Nationals at Eastbourne which is promising indeed. If you fancy having a go just click here for full details

Web Updates

Hi folks, hope you’re all well, it’s raining and dark outside and there isn’t a whole heap on the tellybox so I’ve started to run a couple of updates on the website. Most of it remains the same, however I have updated the DF95 Boom Drawing page with the new drawings which Buzz has produced for us….cheers Buzz. I have left the original drawings on the page for reference purposes.

I have also done a quick update on the Clubs page which now lists 190ish clubs. It will be further updated with a clickable website link where available and also MYA affiliation status where applicable.

Aaaand finally I have pressed a button on the forum which accepted the backlog of pending members. Apologies to those of you who have waited a while for this, it got forgotten.
